Pavel Brázda - Between Dawn and Twilight II

28. 02.2016 - 12. 06.2016

Pavel Brázda (born 1926) has, since the mid-20th century, been one of the leading solo figures of Czech art. His expression stems from a highly original conception of figurative realism in which elements of fantasy are fused with a rational statement about the positive and negative aspects of the human psyche. Brázda’s creative idiom is a unique phenomenon in the context of Czech (and perhaps also international) art, having roots in various historical chapters and trends of European and non-European culture. Brázda has an affinity towards both Gothic ‘surreality’ and the visual impact of street posters. Above all, Brázda’s expression is rooted in his credo that ‘you should stand by your truth’ and in his uncompromising refusal to yield to ideological pressure or stylistic dogma. This exhibition is being held to mark Brázda’s 90th birthday. It presents a brief survey of his life’s work as well as his latest pictures created as digital prints on canvas.
