Lyuben Petrov Fata Morgana
opening: 7/4 2018
curator: Radka Zahradníková
Lyuben Petrov (*1984) hails from Burgas, Bulgaria, and his roots are clearly expressed in the colourfulness and expressivity of his paintings. Working on the basis of traditional painting techniques, Petrov experiments with and shifts the possibilities of colour and canvas with each new series he creates. At GASK, he will present two aspects of his work, supplemented by several new paintings. One group of works explores the question of death and the search for moments of light in postapocalyptic landscapes. Here, he finds inspiration from, among others, the painters of the Renaissance. His second group of works mixes mythology and stories of the supernatural with contemporary pop icons and fashion trends from the clothing industry and beyond. His art combines the past and the present, with the addition of personal experiences and an ironic, comic-book aestehetic.
